Ditto on hiking shoes being on topic. Yesterday I slipped off the
log for the Side by Side box--wearing cross trainers. Closest I
have to boots but obviously need some boots. So, bring on the
suggestions!

KnitWit Mom
P2 F21 V2

PS to DC Deb--both Side by Side and Pine Cone in good shape.
Outer ziplock for pine cone was torn and water-filled. I replaced it.

love to hear people's suggestions. I have a good pair of rugged
hiking boots but as you say, they really aren't the greatest in the
heat of summer.

My favorite is Vasque's lightweight boots. I never put on the boots
until I start the hike, and I remove them immediately when the hike
ends. I also bring a change of socks with me for long(5 miles +)
hikes. Sometimes I hike in sneakers, but I always change my shoes
before and after a hike. I also like to take breaks at streams, and
soak the feet in the icy water while basking in the warm sun. Vasque
are a bit $$$$, but your feet will love you for it(as well as the
rest of your body).

I own an outdoor store and we sell more Lowa boots for women than we do
Vasque. Go to their website, www.lowaboots.com. If you don't have an
outdoor shop near you, let me know. The new Escape Goat by Montrail is a
great feeling low boot at $95 or the new Reflex by Merrell at $85. Need
waterproof low boots? Java by Montrail at $120. Not trying to be
commercial here, but these are all very good shoes for women. Your local
outdoor retailer can help you a lot! Don't forget the Superfeet insoles!

I purchased mine through Sierra Trading Post(.com), but I am sure
that you can find them at REI or EMS. Just let your fingers do the
walking through the internet. Have fun hunting.
